The Colorado Rockies and infielder Ryan McMahon have agreed to a six-year extension worth $70 million, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Monday.

At 27 years old, the third baseman put up a solid 2021 campaign in which he posted a .779 OPS with 23 home runs and career-bests in batting average (.254) and RBI (86). It appears as though Colorado deems that enough to keep him at the hot corner while the newly-acquired Kris Bryant — who signed a seven-year, $182 million pact with Colorado on Wednesday.

Over the last three seasons, McMahon has posted 162-game averages of 26 home runs with 92 RBI — a benchmark that would be much needed to at least keep Colorado relevant in a loaded National League West division that is headlined by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.
