Series Prediction
Panthers win in 6 games (4-2)
- If there ever was a time for the Panthers to end their playoff series win drought — their last one coming in 1996 when they advanced to the Stanley Cup Final — this is it. Florida is the deepest team in the NHL with a high-powered attack that boasts four 30-goal scorers and three 80-point getters.
- This is starting to feel like one of the Capitals’ last hurrah as a perennial playoff contender. A top-heavy lineup can still be carried by the legendary Alex Ovechkin, but he’s dealing with a shoulder injury that could hamper his play. Behind him, Washington lacks the kind of firepower to keep up with Florida.
- There is some uncertainty within both creases in this series. Florida could roll with either Sergei Bobrovsky or their future franchise netminder, Spencer Knight. It wouldn’t be a surprise if time was split in goal.
- Washington’s situation in the crease is much more uncertain. They called Zach Fucale up from their AHL affiliate in Hershey while Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek struggled down the stretch.
