The 2022 NCAA Tournament is getting as unpredictable as we’ve seen in years, which makes an Elite 8 schedule this weekend all the more intriguing for any sports fan and college basketball maniac.
No. 15 Saint Peter’s — the little MAAC engine that could — became the lowest seed in NCAA Tournament history to make the Elite 8 after upsetting No. 3 Purdue in the Sweet 16 on Friday night in Philadelphia.
Only a single No. 1 seed remains in Kansas, as two other top seeds in Arizona and Gonzaga were knocked out by No. 5 Houston and No. 4 Arkansas. No. 8 North Carolina, who already knocked a No. 1 seed in the defending national champions Baylor out in the second round, outlasted another blue-chip program in No. 4 UCLA in the Sweet 16.
Another borderline cinderella is Miami (FL) — a No. 10 seed that moved past No. 11 Iowa State in one of the more surprising Sweet 16 matchups of the schedule.
Meanwhile, a pair of No. 2 seeds in Villanova and Duke lurk to provide some stability to a frenzied tournament.
